Let’s face it. As domain investors, it’s all about the money. So of course you want to consider income generation outside of just buying and selling when it comes to your portfolio. For many, this is where domain parking comes into play.
For the newbies, domain parking is a system where you point your domain names to a company that in turn puts up a landing page for anyone visiting that domain. That landing page contains advertisements in the form of relevant text links. When the user clicks an advertisement, you and the parking website company get paid. If you are familiar with Google Adsense, it’s a very similar setup. However, with domain parking you don’t have to worry about building a website yourself. The parking company does that automatically for you. All you really have to do is change your domain’s nameservers to point to the parking system.
Also, many domain parking companies do double duty and act as domain brokers. Offering to sell the domain for you, should and of the parking page visitors be interested. One of the biggest domain parking companies out there doing this is SEDO. They are extremely well known in the domain name community, and are well trusted. I can tell you that I have personally parked many domains there, as well as having used them to broker domain sales.
In my opinion, parking your domains is smart business. If you don’t plan on developing the domain (which would be my first choice), then you definitely want to consider maximizing the possible profit a domain can make while you are looking to find a buyer. Domain parking is just the ticket in this regard. So if you aren’t currently parking your domain names, take a peak at SEDO and see if they might just fit the bill for you.
