Losing on a Domain

sadYup, it happens. You put a lot of time and money into a project and it didn’t pan out the way you wanted to. In some cases, this means letting a web property go for a loss.

But don’t be upset, it’s part of doing business online, and definitely part of being a domain name investor. Before you do drop that domain though, make sure you aren’t taking a loss for no reason.

Here’s what I’m getting at.

Sometimes you want to sell a domain because you’ve been hanging on to it for a long time. Usually it’s a domain that no one has shown any interest in. Maybe you’ve had it parked forever, maybe you’ve listed it on on the brokerage sites. Either way, it’s been a dog that’s really starting to bother you.

Here’s where I say, let that domain sit. More times than not, someone will come along and offer you a good price for it. Remember, you likely put some time, research, and energy into finding the domain in the first place. If you had reasons to register it, then most likely someone else will too.

You just have to be patient. So before you sell a domain at a loss, consider waiting it out. In my experience, a buyer usually comes along and makes it all better. :)
