How Much is a Domain Worth

December 30th, 2009

howmuchThis one is going to get a few looks, I guarantee it. Because it’s the question every domain name investor is constantly asking. How much, exactly, is my domain worth?

Its funny too, because if you subscribe to any one of the hundreds of domain forums out there you’ll see that the opinions on domain valuation vary tremendously. Which is why, in my opinion, you really shouldn’t take what they say in those forums all so seriously.

Not to say they don’t have value, just to say that it’s not going to give you a solid valuation system for the domains in your portfolio.

Nope, what you need is a domain name appraisal. If you have a real, paper appraisal from a recognized authority (we recommend yourdomainvalue.com ) 9 times out of 10 you’ll sell your domains faster, and for more money.

Here’s why we recommend their domain name appraisal services. They have 8 points they cover in the domain appraisal process. Read the rest of this entry »

Brandable Domain Names

December 28th, 2009

sucker-domainsI don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time looking at different forums and advertising websites that sell domain names. I’m looking for bargains and ideas mostly, but I’m also looking at what is selling, and what is not.

What I find interesting these days is that a lot of domainers are really pimping how brandable their domain name is. Many times, it’s simply because a domain is phonetic. In other words, it doesn’t actually have to be a word, it just has to be pronounceable. Read the rest of this entry »

What I have seen in my experience is that it tends to bring a flood of new blood into the scene. I’m not sure if the scores of newbie domainers is because of new year’s resolutions, or just the fact that Christmas is over. But either way, year after year, they seem to come in droves the first of the year. Read the rest of this entry »

Stick With .COM, .NET. and .ORG TLDs To Make Domain Name Investing Easier

Stick With .COM, .NET. and .ORG TLD's To Make Domain Name Investing Easier

Whenever someone is interested in building up affiliate websites or flipping domain names, I always giving the same advice. Find your niche topic and stick with the big three TLD’s. The best order to stick with when purchasing domain names is .COM, .NET, and .ORG. If you can get the .COM for a keyword or phrase that you think is valuable, then go for it. However, a .NET or .ORG is also a great way to jump into the domain name market. In most cases, the latter two can competitively rank well against a similar .COM, in some cases it can beat it out as well.

Four Letter Domains Are Gold

Four Letter Domains Are Gold

Surprisingly, not every four letter domain name is a completed word. In fact, many are simply random letter combinations that were registered and re-sold countless of times. Branding the ccTLD’s

December 16th, 2009

brandingAs domain name investors, we are always looking for new domain name opportunities. So whenever a new ccTLD is made available to the public, many of us start to drool.

Because it seems too good to be true. I mean, you can actually get one word and two word domain names, right? Making it sound like heaven to us. But is investing in ccTLD’s all that great? Or is it just really well done hype by the companies behind them? I’m going to jump right out there and say it’s a little bit of both. Read the rest of this entry »
